WHAT IS FLIGHT LINE OPERATIONS?

The flight line staff is the most important tool CAP has to ensure the efficient, effective and safe operations of our flight line. CAP accomplishes this through 2 positions; the Flight Lime Marshaller and the Flight Line Supervisor.

The Flight Line Marshaller (FLM) is responsible for safe moving and parking of all mission aircraft. Each FLM must be well trained, confident of their knowledge and skills of the flight line and aircraft operations. The duties of an FLM include:

  • Marshall aircraft
  • Wing walker
  • Aircraft startup
  • Aircraft taxi
  • Aircraft shutdown
  • Tie-down aircraft
  • Ground safety observer

The Flight Line Supervisor (FLS) is responsible for flight line personnel and the efficient, effective and safe operation of the flight line. All members of the flight line team are the responsibility of, and reports to the FLS. The duties of an FLM include:

  • Coordinate activities with local FBO
  • Coordinate activities with airport administration and security
  • Coordinate activities with local fire department
  • Coordinate activities with local hospital and/or EMT operators
  • Survey airport for the best parking areas and taxi routes
  • Survey airport for hazards and emergency equipment
  • Supervise Flight Line Marshallers
  • Brief Flight Line Marshallers and trainees

ABOUT THE TRAINING

Vermont Wing Flight Line School is a 2-day training event.

Day 1 of training consists of classroom exercises and task familiarization with the day culminating in a practical exercise.  The intent of this day’s training is to complete all of the SQTR training tasks for the course you are enrolled in and proved each student with 1 exercise participation on a simulated flightline. Students who do not demonstrate proficiency during the day 1 PE must redo the PE prior to being advanced to the 2d day of training.

Day 2 of training consists mainly of running an actual flight line.  The intent of this day’s training is to provide enrolled students with the 2d exercise participation. Students must complete the day 2 PE to be certified.

NOTE: We will only be crediting 1 participation credit per day.  If you choose not to participate in the 2d day of training, you must get another participation credit elsewhere to complete your qualification.

Certification requires completion of 100% of the task requirements as listed on the Specialty Qualification Training Record (SQTR). While some students may have tasks completed from previous training, all students are required to demonstrate proficiency in all tasks listed on the SQTR to complete this course.  Attendance and completion of all tasks does not always guarantee certification. At times, a student will need more experience than can be provided in a short intensive course. These students will be given credit for their task completions but will need to spend additional time working with qualified trainers at their home squadron to gain more experience prior to full certification.
